Sono Motors has unveiled Sion, the first series-produced electric vehicle (EV) with solar integration. Sono Motors was founded in 2016, based on the vision of a sustainable mobility concept independent of fossil fuels. The company manufactures EVs and is headquartered in Munich, Germany.
The Sion has full-surface incorporation of solar modules into the bodywork, which generates over 20 miles of additional range. The vehicle will feature full-surface integrated solar cells that are embedded in hard-wearing, resilient polymer. Approximately 9,500 Sions have been pre-ordered at cost of U.S. $ 30,000.
It is important to recognize that the move from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) to EVs which shift the fuel demand from refineries which produce gasoline and diesel to the electric utility. EVs could increase demand for electricity on utilities by 20% to 40%. EVs with solar panels have the potential to ease the demand on our utilities.
