NEC Energy Solutions Inc. has announced the completion of the largest energy storage system in Europe. The energy storage system was built for EnspireME in Jardelund, Federal Republic of Germany. NEC Energy Solutions is headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts and develops and manufactures advanced batteries and energy storage systems. EnspireME is a joint venture between Eneco Group and Mitsubishi Corporation.
The battery storage system has over 50 MWh of storage capacity. EnspireME will sell battery storage capacity to German utilities to stabilize the electricity grid system. European utilities are required to maintain battery storage capacity in the event of sudden power loss. The battery storage system can also be used to redistribute power during power outages to hospitals and first responders.
