The Lake Erie Energy Development Company (LEEDCo) is in the final permitting stage for a fresh water wind farm in Lake Erie. The wind farm is called Icebreaker Wind and will supply electricity to Cleveland, Ohio.
Planning, permitting and construction of offshore wind farms have started in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Virginia. These states have seen that Europe has proven the cost and environmental advantages of offshore wind energy. Perhaps the west coast states will eventually wake up to the significant potential of offshore wind energy.
