New Hydropower Project In Australia

The state government of South Australia has approved plans by Delta Electricity to develop the 230 MW Goat Hill hydropower project. The Goat Hill hydropower project is located near the city of Port Augusta near the Southern Ocean. Delta Electricity has the hydropower development rights and the Altura Group is the project developer. Delta Electricity is an electricity generation company and is headquartered in Sydney, Australia. The Altura Group is a developer of renewable energy projects and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois in the United States.
The Goat Hill hydropower project will be a closed loop inland pumped storage hydropower project. The estimated cost for the hydropower project is approximately US $305 million. In 2016, the government of South Australia aggressively moved from coal fueled power plants to renewable energy. The poorly planned move resulted in power outages and dramatic price increases in electricity. The Goat Hill hydropower project is one of many renewable energy projects planned in South Australia to ensure a reliable source of electrical power.
