The ABB Group has developed the fastest electric vehicle (EV) battery charging system in the world. ABB is a multinational corporation that is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. The corporation is involved in robotics, power, heavy electrical equipment and automation technology.
ABB’s new EV battery charging system, the Terra High Power charger can charge up to 350 kilowatts in eight minutes, marginally longer than it takes to refuel a vehicle with a combustion engine. The eight-minute charge translate to a driving distance of approximately 125 miles.
In my opinion, the key to increasing EV growth in the United States is maintaining a charging time of less than ten minutes and increasing the driving distance on the charge from 125 miles to 350 miles. When this happens, the demand for new EVs will surpass the demand for vehicles with a combustion engine. In my opinion, this type of technology will occur in just a few short years.
