The video show the installation of offshore wind turbines in the deepwaters of the North Sea. Oregon has a narrow offshore shelf, which limits the area for conventional platforms for offshore wind turbines. The video shows new technology which opens up deepwater regions for offshore wind farms.
Winds are stronger and more consistent offshore than onshore. The strongest offshore winds in the United States occur offshore Oregon and offshore northern California. This new technology now allows Oregon to pursue offshore wind energy, which has the potential to eliminate the state’s dependence on fossil fuel (coal and natural gas).
Why isn’t Oregon’s legislators supporting the development of offshore wind farms? I hope all Oregonians begin to ask this question and hold our legislators responsible for the lack of action.
