“Smart Network” Pilot Project by Audi

Audi is a German automobile manufacturer that designs, engineers, produces, markets and distributes luxury vehicles. Audi is a member of the Volkswagen Group, which has its headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. Audi has announced plans for a pilot project to test a smart energy network that uses software to control solar and batteries and interact with the main power grid.

The pilot project will be conducted on homes in southern Germany and northern Switzerland. The features of the pilot project include a combination of various sizes of solar PV systems with stationary batteries. The software in the pilot project will distribute solar power based on demand from a car, household, or heating system. The pilot project will also be able to feed excess solar power into regional electrical grid system.

In my opinion, this is another example of the dynamic changes that are occurring in the power grid systems in many countries. As consumers, it is imperative that our regional utilities are current with the latest technology to minimize the risk of major power outages.
